International Women's Day 2023

How Far We Have Come: An International Women’s Day ‘23 Introspection

International Women’s Day 2023 is upon us, I mean, the entire month is all about women and this year’s theme is all about “Embracing Equity”. It’s a time to celebrate the progress we’ve made in the fight for gender equality, while also recognizing that there’s still so much work to be done, especially in the tech industry. Women all over the world are continually breaking barriers and wearing their crowns high up. Women who are helping shape the future of healthy, sustainable workplaces, schools, homes, and organizations are getting the recognition they deserve.

The theme of 2023’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity – “For International Women’s Day and beyond, let’s all fully #EmbraceEquity. And it’s critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.

But we don’t want this to be a one-way conversation – we want to hear from you! What are your thoughts on the gender gap in tech? Do you have any personal experiences with the challenges women face in this industry?

Let’s take a look at some of the latest trends and research in the field of technology and innovation for gender equality.

Investing in STEM Education for Girls

Did you know that in Africa, women make up just 24% of the STEM workforce? Organizations like Girls Who Code, Black Girls Code, and Technovation are working to change that by providing girls with access to STEM education and encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Creating More Inclusive Workplaces

Companies can play a big role in closing the gender gap in tech by creating more inclusive workplaces that value diversity and provide opportunities for women to advance in their careers. Unconscious bias training, mentorship programs, and flexible work arrangements are just a few examples of initiatives that can help make this happen.

Supporting Women Entrepreneurs

Using Technology to Address Gender Inequality

Technology can be a powerful tool in the fight for gender equality. Blockchain technology can increase transparency in supply chains and reduce the exploitation of workers, while artificial intelligence can help identify and address biases in hiring and promotion processes. What other ways do you think technology can be used to address gender inequality?

It’s important to remember that the fight for gender equality is ongoing and will require sustained effort from all of us. The tech industry, in particular, has a long way to go in terms of gender diversity and inclusion. We must continue to invest in STEM education for girls, create more inclusive workplaces, support women entrepreneurs, and use technology to address gender inequality.

But we also need to listen to the experiences of women in tech and provide them with a platform to share their stories and ideas. By engaging in open and honest conversations about the challenges faced by women in the industry, we can work together to create real change.

So let’s continue to #EmbraceEquity and make sure that our actions are aligned with our values. Together, we can create a future where women are equally represented and valued in the tech industry. Let’s continue this conversation using the hashtag #tcgembraceequity and work together to close the gender gap in tech and create a more equitable future for all. Use the hashtag #TCGEmbraceEquity and share your thoughts and ideas with us. Together, we can make a difference!
